Shakira + The Weeknd Join FIFA Education Board

Ahead of 2026 World Cup, Shakira and The Weeknd have joined the FIFA Global Citizen Education board.

Work in conjunction with top tier entertainment, sports and business figures – including including Ivanka Trump, Hugh Jackman, Gianni Infantino, Hugh Evans and Serena Williams – the Columbian and Canadian superstar musicians will oversee the fund’s efforts to make global education more accessible to all.

In an effort to to improve worldwide childhood education, FIFA has joined forces with Global Citizen to leverage the power of football with the goal of raising $100,000,000.00 for education for 100,000 children throughout 200 communities worldwide.

Lending their individual experiences and careers, the celebrities will provide guidance to ensure the fund “achieves maximum impact” ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup next summer. According to the organization, the Global Citizen’s initiative with FIFA comes at a time when 350,000,000 children worldwide are currently not in school.

News of the board’s A-list membership comes seven months after the March announcement that Coldplay’s Chris Martin will curate FIFA’s first-ever Super Bowl-style halftime show for the 2026 World Cup, the final for which is slated to take place on July 19 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
