Selena Gomez is set to play Linda Ronstadt in an upcoming biopic about the legendary singer/songwriter.
After Gomez posted an Instagram Story of Ronstadt’s 2013 memoir Simple Dreams, fans of the contemporary singer/actress began to speculate online about the potential casting
Like Ronstadt, Gomez is also of Mexican descent and in 2022, Linda released her Feels Like Home LP which contained stories of her heritage and Sonoran recipes. Directed by Keach in 2020, the Linda and the Mockingbirds film chronicled the iconic chanteuse’s visit to Mexico with Jackson Browne the year prior, where they worked with the students of Los Cenzontles Cultural Arts Academy.
The 2019 documentary Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice traced the musician’s incredible 50 year long, multi-genre career, including her country rock success in the 1970s, her Pirates of Penzance Broadway moment, and more. “I was tired at the end [of watching it],” she told Rolling Stone.“I thought, ‘I can’t believe I did that much stuff!’”
Following her her final performance in 2009 at San Antonio’s Municipal Auditorium, Ronstadt retired from singing after being diagnosis with Parkinson’s Disease diagnosis, and she sold her catalog to Irving Azoff‘s Iconic Artists Group in 2021.
