Along with his mother, Janice Turner, Sean Kingston has been indicted on wire fraud allegations.
Claiming that the funds for the items had been wired and were in transit, the 34-year old superstar singer and his 61-year-old mother are accused of pressuring multiple businesses to give them goods that had not yet been paid for.
According to Us magazine, a Miami federal grand jury has charged the son and mother duo on five counts of wire fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, the respective charges for which carry a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
By falsely representing that they’d executed bank wire or other monetary payment transfers, the US Attorney’s Office of the Southern District of Florida claims that the familial team “unjustly enriched themselves” to the tune of more than $1,000,000.00
Born Kisean Anderson, prosecutors allege that Kingston and Turner used fraudulent documents to pressure dealers of luxury vehicles, jewelry and other high-end items to hand over goods before they had received full payments.
The singer was released on a $10,000 cash bond, and his mother was released on a $5,000 cash bond and are both due in court for their next appearance on August 9.
