In lieu of a normal comedy sketch, Saturday Night Live‘s February 25 show opened with a tribute performance to Ukraine amid the ongoing Russian invasion.
Performing a “Prayer for Ukraine” SNL cast members Kate McKinnon and Cecily Strong introduced the The Ukrainian Chorus Dumka of New York.
In response to Russian troops that launched an attack on Ukraine this week with ongoing explosions and airstrikes on the city, the choir sang the melancholy tune in front of a live audience and a table of candles that spelled the name of Ukraine’s capital city, Kyiv.
