What the pop star’s fans believe could be a diss track aimed at her ex-boyfriend, Irish actor Barry Keoghan, Sabrina Carpenter addressed the inspiration behind her new single ‘Manchild.’
Shortly after releasing Short n’ Sweet, her co-written LP with Jack Antonoff and Amy Allen, on Friday (6.06) the pop songstress took to social media, with:
“I wrote manchild on a random tuesday with amy and jack not too long after finishing short n’ sweet and it ended up being the best random tuesday of my life.” “Not only was it so fun to write, but this song became to me something I can look back on that will score the mental montage to the very confusing and fun young adult years of life.”
Describing her new single as the “embodiment of a loving eye roll,” the now 26-year-old singer added:
“It sounds like the song embodiment of a loving eye roll and it feels like a never ending road trip in the summer!” “Hence why i wanted to give it to you now – so you can stick your head out the car window and scream it all summer long!”
Thanking her fans for their support, Carpenter concluded her Instagram post with “And thank you men for testing me!! (pig emoji and white heart emoji),” along with images from the song’s accompanying music video, and a snapshot of her embracing songwriters Jack and Amy.
After a year of dating, the celebrity couple reportedly broke up in December of 2024 and Sabrina’s fans believe the track is aimed at Barry when the musician announced the song in an Instagram teaser with the caption, “This one’s about you!!”
