Rosalía Releases Deluxe Edition Of ‘Motomami’ Album

Following repeated hints about new material during her Motomami World Tour, Spanish chanteuse Rosalía delivered Motomami+, a deluxe edition of her current LP that includes her latest single “Despechá,” alongside new versions of Motomami standouts and several new songs.

Among the reimagined titles on the expanded Motomami album is remix of “Candy” featuring Puerto Rican reggaeton trailblazer Chencho Corleone, along with a live version of “La Fama” recorded during her recent appearance at the Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona, where the singer (born Rosalia Vila i Tobella) attended the Catalonia College of Music.

A number of the new tracks featured on Motomami+ address the 29 year-old singer’s darker side of her ever-increasing fame. On “LAX,” the superstar songstress boasts about her Louis Vuitton handbags, Rolex watches and holding an O-1 American visa (extended only to individuals with “extraordinary” abilities in the arts and sciences.) As the song progresses, however, she talks of “nights alone” and laments that “hardly anyone sees what I lost” in her quest for success. “Se siente heavy,” she coos. “Los focos pa’ mí, lo quise pa’ mí, lo tuve pa’ mí.” (“It feels heavy/The spotlight’s for me/I wanted that for me/I had it for me.”)

Aislamiento” explores similar themes, with the Sony Music artist targeting TMZ, the paparazzi, and the isolation and loneliness her celebrity creates as she says. “Hay un muro entre yo y el mundo.” “No quiero que pienses que eso me da orgullo.” (“There’s a wall between myself and the world. I don’t want you to think it makes me proud.”)

The deluxe edition concludes with “Thank Yu ,” a spoken word composition from the singer who says “Let’s see, let’s see.” “I don’t hear my voice so much. Hi. I’m Rosalía, and you’ve heard Motomami. It seems that this is the end. So, thank you so much for listening.”

The Motomami World Tour marks Rosalía’s first-ever global series with her continental U.S. leg starting in Boston (9.15) and wrapping up at III Points Festival in Miami (10.22.)
