Robbie Williams Cancels Turkish Show

With Robbie Williams previously speaking out in support of Israel, Istanbul authorities have cancelled the British singer’s October 7 concert.

Afater several Turkish organizations called on authorities to cancel his show, the superstar singer/songwriter took to Instagram to share the news:

“I’m extremely sorry that I will not be able to perform in Istanbul next week.” “City authorities have cancelled the show, in the interests of public safety.” “The last thing I would ever want to do is to jeopardize the safety of my fans – their safety and security come first.” “To end this epic run of dates in front of my Turkish fans was my dream, given the close connections my family have with this wonderful country.” “We were so looking forward to this show, but the decision to cancel it was beyond our control.”

What would have been Williams’ first in the city, the show was to take place at an open-air venue in the Ataköy district of western Istanbul. The 51-year old musician previously performed in Bodrum, and in an interview with Turkish media, he noted that he should have visited Istanbul a long time ago.

Robbie Williams’ wife, Ayda Field, is of Turkish heritage.
