Following the news that Anna Wintour is focusing the 2025 Met Gala theme around Black dandyism, Rihanna has “so much” respect for the fashion icon.
Along with Pharrell Williams, actor/playwright Colman Domingo, and basketball icon LeBron James serving as honorary chairs, earlier this week it was confirmed that Rihanna’s partner A$AP Rocky will co-chair the next New York fashion extravaganza.
A fundraising drive held for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in Manhattan, the annual event is overseen by Vogue editor-in-chief Wintour with the 2025 theme recently announced as Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.
About the forthcoming gala, the 36-year old Rihanna told Access Hollywood:
“This is probably one of my favorite themes of all of them, I’ve had tons of incredible themes with the Met ball that I enjoy but this one, it made me respect it so much more.” “It’s also a celebration of history and it’s just bringing it to the forefront on a platform where we’ve been kind of hidden and it’s just accepting it, like yeah! We got this! We’ve been doing this and now I’m excited to see Anna Wintour put that on the forefront, so much respect, I can’t wait to be there. I’m not going to miss this one.”
Inspired by guest curator Monica Miller’s book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, the 2025 fashion fete will be held on 5 May.
