More than four years since her eighth studio album, Anti, in a recent social media post Rihanna revealed some hopeful news about forthcoming material.
In a communication thanking listeners for their unwavering support throughout the years, the Grammy Award winning singer/songwriter opened the door to some exciting possibilities. “Grateful to the most High for putting die hard supporters in my circle,” she wrote alongside a prayer hands emoji and hashtags for the album and Women’s History Month. “Congrats to everyone that contributed to this era, thank you team.” One fan suggested that the singer celebrate by dropping a new song, to which Rihanna said, “I think I should soon… just 1 tho lol.”
RiRi’s latest tease came after a New Year’s Day fan suggestion that the Barbadian talent should make a resolution to release her long-awaited ninth studio album, to wit she responded “2021 energy,” setting fans afire. The singer’s highly-anticipated project, commonly referred to as R9, has reportedly been in the works for several years, with Rolling Stone noting in 2018 that there were potentially upwards of “500 records” vying for space on what was described as a Jamaican dancehall-inspired collection.
