R Kelly‘s daughter Joanne Kelly has no interest in introducing her future son to his grandfather.
In a clip from her upcoming documentary R Kelly’s Karma: A Daughter’s Journey, Joanne said “If my son asks questions, I’m going to be as truthful as possible. And I will not be taking my son to prison to meet his grandfather.”
Looking back on her childhood with her father, his daughter said he “was my everything” but after he was convicted on racketeering and sex trafficking charges in September 2021, the two are no longer close.
“For a long time, I didn’t even want to believe that it happened,” she says of the singer, who is serving a three-decade sentence in Chicago’s Metropolitan Correctional Centre. “Nobody wants to be the child of the father that is out here hurting women and children.”
In addition to R. Kelly’s 30-year sentence, the Grammy winner was convicted on six counts of child sex crimes with charges including producing child pornography and enticing a minor to engage in sexual activity.
In February of last year the singer/songwriter was sentenced to an additional 20 years in prison, 19 of which will be served concurrently with his New York sentence.
The R Kelly’s Karma: A Daughter’s Journey documentary also features appearances from Joanne’s siblings Jaah Kelly and Robert Kelly Jr.
