On Friday (10.21,) Elton John and Britney Spears pulled the trigger on the Purple Disco Machine remix of their collaborative single “Hold Me Closer.”
The new dance floor-ready version comes complete with an animated visualizer od a couple dancing and embracing against a purple background as the two music icons sing, “I saw you dancin’ out the ocean/ Runnin’ fast along the sand/ A spirit born of earth and water/ Fire flyin’ from your hands/ Hold me closer, tiny dancer/ Count the headlights on the highway/ Lay me down in sheets of linen/ You had a busy day today.”
Unlike the original version, Spears’ vocals take a much more prominent role in the Purple Disco Machine (born Tino Piontek aka Tino Schmidt) version of the song including the pop music princess ad libbing throughout the club culture take.
After English DJ and producer Joel Corry put his own spin on the hit earlier this month, Purple Disco Machine’s reimagining of “Hold Me Closer” is the second remix treatment of the re-sung classic.
Upon its original August release, “Hold Me Closer” debuted at #6 on the Billboard Hot 100, giving Spears her highest entry on the chart since her 2012 “Scream and Shout” collab with will.i.am, of the Black Eyed Peas. And the pop chanteuse has expressed her gratitude by thanking Sir Elton for giving her the confidence to get back in the studio for the first time in years.
