According to Italian news outlet TGCOM24, due to a sudden illness, Patti Smith was hospitalized in Bologna, Italy on Tuesday (12.12.)
In the city to perform a concert at Teatro Duse, the venue took to their Instagram Story account to announce the cancellation, writing “With great regret, we inform the kind audience that the Patti Smith concert scheduled for today … will not be able to be staged due to a sudden illness that struck the artist.” “We are all sorry for the inconvenience caused by this news.” “Our best wishes go to the artist for a speedy recovery.”
TGCOM24 reported that the now 76-year-old musician was discharged from the Maggiore hospital in Bologna after medical evaluation.
The iconic rocker’s upcoming appearances in Venice (12.14,) and Milan 12.15,) have also been canceled. Launched in November, Smith’s shows were part of an eight-night tour through Italy, with concerts in Ancona, Bari, Naples, and Modena. And at press time, Patti is still currently scheduled to perform in Chicago and Brooklyn later this month.
Earlier in the year, Smith appeared as a surprise guest at the Music of Paul McCartney charity concert hosted at New York’s Carnegie Hall. Though she wasn’t part of the official bill, the legendary artist appeared midway through the show to perform a rendition of the 1967 Beatles classic “She’s Leaving Home” for the first time.
