In celebration of its half-decade anniversary, Olivia Rodrigo shared a David Byrne cover of ‘Drivers License.’
SOUR, the superstar singer/songwriter’s debut studio LP will reach its milestone in May, and to celebrate the occasion, Olivia enlisted her “favorite artists ever” to cover several songs from her first full length, including the Talking Heads frontman, who put his own spin on her hit lead single.
Now 22-years old, Rodrigo teamed up with the 73-year old rocker to perform his band’s 1983 classic ‘Burning Down the House’ at the 2025 Governors Ball, and the collaboration is the B-side to David’s cover on a special edition 7′ vinyl, which is available to pre-order now from Olivia’s official store.
Taking to her Instagram account, the pop songstress penned:
“SOUR is turning 5 years old this year! and to celebrate, i’m so excited to announce an upcoming series of reimagined SOUR covers from some of my favorite artists ever. we’re starting off insanely strong with an incredible reworking of ‘drivers license’ from one of my all-time heroes, David Byrne. David is nothing short of a legend and I actually cried when I heard his version of this song. You can stream it now or pre order a 7 inch vinyl with his cover and our version of “Burning Down The House” from gov ball. I’m stoked!! Go give it a listen. (sic)”
Marking the milestone, the California native added:
“happy 5 years of drivers license!!! looking back at these pics I feel like I look like a baby but it also feels like just yesterday lol. this song has totally changed my life in ways I still can’t totally wrap my head around. I’m forever grateful for this magical chapter and I can’t wait to scream red lights stop signs with u guys at every concert I play for the rest of my life! happy birthday DL (sic)”
Discussing how his special bond with the Grammy-winning pop star came to pass, Byrne told The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon “I saw her show here at Madison Square Garden and met her. I’m a fan.” “And she stayed in touch.” “She said, ‘Hey, wanna join me?’ ” “I did say, ‘Hey, if you’re in town for a couple days, maybe we can work out a little choreo.’ I had to pinch myself and go, ‘Yeah, I’m really doing this.’”
