Responding to claims that Taylor Swift stole her look, Kylie Minogue took to Instagram and shared “respect and admiration” after fans claimed the American musician has copied the Aussie’s style for her recently-revealed album cover.
“When all your friends start sending you your Showgirl mems!!! Awww,” penned Kylie in a caption alongside the post that featured a set of photos of herself in full showgirl garb form.
The name given to female singer-dancers who perform in cabaret acts and chorus lines, “Showgirl life is ‘a thing’, multi dimensional and so much more than feathers and dazzle” and “Respect and admiration to all my fellow hard working Showgirls,” added the 57-year old Aussie songstress.
Along with the album cover that featured her donned in showgirl regalia, on August 12 Swift Announced her upcoming LP, The Life of a Showgirl, after which many a Minogue fan was quick to critique. Claiming it imitated similar looks Kylie has worn throughout her career – including her Showgirl: The Greatest Hits tour and the subsequent tour DVD, titled Kylie Minogue: Showgirl – one fanatic wrote “Kylie is the one and only showgirl!” “No shade to Taylor but Kylie is the ultimate,” with another posting “There’s only one Showgirl and that’s Kylie!!’
