Mary J. Blige Sues Booker For $1.1M

Alleging that they failed to pay the full about of money she was owed for her performance, Mary J. Blige has filed a breach of contract lawsuit against the booker of the 2022 Miami Funk Fest,

Filed in U.S. District Court in Florida, the lawsuit accuses RM Talent Agency of “failing to pay the full amount of the Performance Fee” agreed upon for the 2022 concert. The superstar singer is seeking damages, pre-and -post-judgment interest, as well as attorney fees and any other relief the court “deems just and proper.”

According to the lawsuit, Blige and RM Talent Agency entered into a contract for the show on 9.05 of last year, settling on a performance fee of $1,100,000. Mary confirmed that she received $250,000 on 9.20, and a second payment of $200,000 on 11.09.

Several weeks later, Blige performed at Miami Funk Fest on 12.03, and on 1.18.23 she received another payment of $200,000. However, since then, the R&B legend claims that she hasn’t received any additional payments against the $450,000 balance owed.

In 2022, Mary J. released Good Morning Gorgeous, her 14th studio LP and spent much of the year touring in support of the record that earned six Grammy nominations, including Album of the Year and Best R&B Album. During 2023, Blige has played a handful of concerts and is set to appear at Hot 97’s special hip-hop 50th anniversary show on 9.15 at Madison Square Garden.
