Mark Ronson’s ‘Night People’ Memoir

Published on September 25, Century Editorial Director Zennor Compton has acquired the British and Commonwealth rights from Vanessa Kerr at Aevitas Creative Management to ‘Night People,’ the memoir from multi-award winning producer/artist/songwriter Mark Ronson.

Responsible in part for some of the most successful music projects over the last twenty years – including Lady Gaga, Adele, Amy Winehouse, Dua Lipa, Bruno Mars, Miley Cyrus, and the Barbie soundtrack – Ronson’s memoir captures the music, characters, escapades and energy of his early New York deejay days of the 1990s.

Raised by creative parents, parties played a major part in Mark’s upbringing, yet when he moved to Manhattan from London at a young age, he felt like a bit of an outsider, until he found himself in the magnetic, unifying joy of the city’s parties and hip-hop scene. Each night brought the now 49-year old multi-talent a combination of music, ambition, danger, delight, and possibilities.

Night People revisits the undeniable magic of 90s New York, when clubs were diverse, glamorous, and a bit lawless. It recounts the rush of a time when fashionistas and wannabe rappers danced alongside club kids and day laborers, introducing the reader to the tribe of creatives and party goers who went out when the sun went down. A heartfelt coming-of-age tale, Night People is the definitive account of a cultural moment and the making of a musical mastermind.

About his project, Mark Ronson said: ‘DJing in 90s New York City informed everything I ever did after, becoming the foundation for all my future work and creativity.” ‘In ‘Night People,’ I wanted to capture that transformative period of my life and celebrate three of my great loves: the art of DJing, the thrilling energy of New York City after dark, and the wild and wonderful characters who populated our world and became my second family. This book is my love letter to a vanished era that shaped not just my career but my identity—a time when finding my craft put me on the path to finding myself.

Zennor Compton addd: ‘With ‘Night People’, Mark Ronson proves himself to be not only the hitmaker of a generation but a gifted writer. Ronson writes about 90s New York City in such a vivid way that you feel as if you’re partying right there beside him. This is a book about a place, a time, a scene but it’s also Ronson’s origin story – a hugely personal account of the events and characters that made him who he is today. His musical passion and expertise is woven through every page of this memoir. We’re incredibly excited to be publishing Night People, which we know is destined to become a classic music memoir.’
