What’s become an annual tradition over the last half decade, Mariah Carey has announced the start of the winter holiday season with her traditional Christmas announcement.
For the last five years, the self proclaimed ‘Queen of Christmas’ has marked the close of Halloween and the start of November with her “it’s time” video that proclaims the festive season has officially begun.
In her most intricate announcement to date, on Friday (10.01,) the multi-Grammy award winner enters a darkly lit mansion dressed like Morticia Addams from The Addams Family where she meets her husband Gomez when they engage in their signature tango dance. Following the amended routine,Carey pushes her spouse away, throws a dagger at him and opens a cabinet containing a red-and-white Santa jumpsuit. The video then cuts to the pop diva sitting in a sleigh donned in the festive Christmas outfit singing, “It’s time!!” in her whistle register as Gomez morphs into a snowman and her 1994 holiday classic ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ begins to play.
During her Friday (10.01) interview with The New York Times, the superstar chanteuse reflected on the evolution of her Christmas announcement videos, stating:
“(At first,) it wasn’t even really like an announcement.” “People would say, ‘Hey, when is it OK to put our lights up and put our tree up?’ and ‘When do you do it?’ People would just ask me that because I guess they thought I was very Christmassy. (Now,) I love ‘It’s time.’ It’s so fun.”
Particularly timely, 2024 marks the 30th anniversary of her ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ classic and Mariah will be celebrating the holiday season by embarking on the Christmas Time tour across the United States from November 6 through December 17.
