Mariah Carey To Receive MTV Video Vanguard Award

During the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards, Mariah Carey will receive the Video Vanguard Award, and to celebrate the occasion, the songstress will perform a series of career spanning hits.

Twenty years since the multi-Grammy award winner took the VMAs stage, Carey made her debut in 1991 with a memorable performance of ‘Emotions,’ followed by her 2005 appearance when she sang ‘We Belong Together’ and ‘Shake It Off.’

Though she doesn’t believe in keeping track of her age, the now 56-year old singer/songwriter will be the oldest artist to receive the Video Vanguard Award.

Having amassed more #1Billboard Hot 100 hits than any other solo artist, the New York-born superstar was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2022 and is often dubbed the “songbird supreme.”

2005 will mark the eighth consecutive year that a female recipient has been chosen for the Video Vanguard Award after Rihanna won it in 2016, followed by Pink the next year, Jennifer Lopez in 2018 and Missy Elliott in 2019. After the awards ceremony took a break due to the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021, Nicki Minaj claimed the award in 2022, followed by Shakira in 2023, with Katy Perry taking it home last year.

Hosted by LL Cool J, this year’s VMAs will take place at the UBS Arena in New York on September 7.
