On Wednesday night (12.07,) Mariah Carey showed up at The Late Show With Stephen Colbert to take the host’s famed “Colbert Questionert.”
During last night’s episode Colbert kicked off the questions by asking the superstar singer, “You only get one song to listen to for the rest of your life. What is it?” Mariah responds “Stephen Colbert’s latest hit,” to which Colbert informed her, “The last song I sang was ‘All I Want for Christmas’ on this show, last night, actually. … I ended the monologue singing your song last night!”
The musician wanted to know how much of her former #1 hit the host crooned, and after he sang song’s iconic intro and part of the chorus, Mariah sang along to the melody “You skipped a little part of the B section, but that’s all right,”
Now at #2, “All I Want for Christmas Is You” has begun its annual climb up the Billboard Hot 100 for this holiday season as the 1994 single sits under Taylor Swift’s “Anti-Hero.” Carey’s Xmas classic peaked at #1 three years in a row as of 2019. Later this month, Mariah will bring her winter spirit to New York City and Toronto for a quartet of Merry Christmas to All! holiday concerts, along with her very own primetime holiday special on CBS.
