On Tuesday (10.21), MusiCares, the nonprofit agency that raises funds to support musicians in times of financial, personal, or medical crisis, confirmed that Mariah Carey is the organization’s 2026 Person of the Year.
Expressing her excitement, the multi-Grammy award winner took to Instagram with:
“I’m so honored to be named the 2026 MusiCares’ Person of the Year.” “Grateful to be celebrated through this special GRAMMY Week event, raising vital funds to support the music community year-round.”
During the January 2026 event, producers will celebrate Carey’s “extraordinary career as well as her long-standing commitment to supporting communities and people in need.”
Including her contribution to relief efforts for the communities impacted by Hurricane Katrina and the Covid-19 pandemic, the superstar singer/songwriter also founded Camp Mariah in partnership with the Fresh Air Fund to support underserved youth.
In a statement from chief executive officer of the Recording Academy and MusiCares, Harvey Mason Jr. said:
“We are honored to recognize Mariah Carey as this year’s MusiCares Person of the Year, a true creative force and once-in-a-generation talent.” “Her artistry and her voice have helped shape the sound of our times. We look forward to celebrating her remarkable career on this very special night.”
Over the course of two nights prior to the Grammy Awards, the 2026 Person of the Year benefit gala will take place at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
Mariah Carey joins a distinguished list of MusiCares honorees, including Jon Bon Jovi, Joni Mitchell, Dolly Parton, and Fleetwood Mac.
