Madonna has accused rapper Tory Lanez of illegally sampling ‘Into the Groove.’
On Monday (12.27) the 63-year-old superstar singer took to Instagram and posted a message to Lanez in which she claimed he had used her song without her permission, implying that she had attempted to reach him privately, writing:
“Read your messages for illegal usage of my song get into the groove!”
The multi-Grammy award winner was referencing the Canadian rapper’s “Pluto’s Last Comet,” song from his ’80s inspired album Alone At Prom, which was released on 10 December.
Written by Madonna and Stephen Bray, ‘Into the Groove’ was originally released in 1985 for the film Desperately Seeking Susan, which starred the pop singer, and was later included on the re-release of her 1984 album Like A Virgin.
Tory Lanez, currently faces assault and gun charges for allegedly shooting Megan Thee Stallion last year, has not publicly responded to Madonna’s accusation.
Have a look and listen to both songs for comparison purposes.
