Luke Combs Plays ‘Fast Car’ Live: Look + Listen

During every one of his current stadium shows (and for years before that,) Luke Combs has been performing his version of Tracy Chapman’s 1988 hit “Fast Car.”

Earlier today a live music video of Comb’s May concert at Minneapolis’s U.S. Bank Stadium was released.

Luke’s version of the Chapman classic has held the #1 Billboard Country Airplay chart position for three weeks and #2 on Billboard’s Hot 100, just behind Morgan Wallen’s multi-week chart-topper “Last Night.” Released 16 weeks ago, Luke’s cover has just been certified platinum.

“Fast Car” appears on the iconic country musician’s current LP Gettin’ Old and the song’s Herculean rise to #1 made Chapman the first ever Black woman songwriter to have a country music chart-topper as the sole writer.

About the current success of her 35-year old song, Tracy told Billboard “I never expected to find myself on the country charts, but I’m honored to be there.” “I’m happy for Luke and his success and grateful that new fans have found and embraced ‘Fast Car.’”
