After falling ill on Wednesday night (6.24,) Lionel Richie was forced to cut short the opening night of his Sing a Song All Night Long Tour at the Grand Casino Arena in St. Paul, Minnesota.
After less than an hour on stage, the 77-year old singer/songwriter abruptly stopped the show, and according to the Minnesota Star Tribune, the multi-Grammy award sat down onstage multiple times while performing ‘Dancing on the Ceiling.’
Telling the audience he wasn’t feeling well, Richie said “When you’re feeling dizzy, sit your a*s down,” and while at the piano to perform his ballad ‘Three Times a Lady’ he announced an unplanned intermission.
Following his departure, Lionel’s band remained onstage for some 15 minutes before leaving, after which his saxophonist, Dino Soldo, returned to thank the crowd for their patience before announcing that the show was over, adding:
“Unfortunately, Lionel is not feeling well.” “He won’t be able to continue. Additional information will be available.”
Scheduled for 26 concerts, The Sing a Song All Night Long Tour is expected to run until August 14 with Richie and Earth, Wind & Fire next slated to perform in Chicago on Friday (6.26.)
At press time Lionel Richie has yet to address the incident.
