According to Mail on Sunday in England, Liam Payne wrote and recorded ‘Closer To You’ as a tribute to his love for supermodel Naomi Campbell.
In 2019, the former member of One Direction dated Campbell for several months and began composing the song shortly after the couple broke up but abandoned work on the love song until earlier this year when he finally recorded the three-and-a-half minute song in Los Angeles in July.
As part of their ongoing investigation into Liam’s death, Payne’s posthumous recording was submitted into a Buenos Aires court as part of a 91-page document made by lawyers representing the singer;s close friend, Argentine-American businessman Roger Nores.
The leaked lyrics from the currently unreleased song include such touching lines as “I want to love you,” and “Still smell your perfume in my room.”
The 31-year old singer/songwriter travelled to Sweden in August where he recorded the final version of the song with producer and composer Rami Yacoub, who penned One Direction’s biggest hit, ‘What Makes You Beautiful.’
Liam Payne tragically died in October after falling from the third floor of a Buenos Aires hotel.
