Following the tragic and unexpected death of Liam Payne with no will in place, the singer’s ex Cheryl Cole has taken control of his $32,200,000 estate.
According to court documents obtained by People magazine, Cole with whom Payne shared eight-year-old son Bear, will oversee his estate alongside music industry lawyer Richard Mark Bray.
In the court documents viewed by the BBC, Cheryl Tweedy (pka Cheryl Cole) and Bray have only been granted limited authority to manage the former musician’s finances until a general grant is made. In the short term, the Girls Aloud member and the attorney will not be able to distribute any funds from the estate.
In October of 2024, the former One Direction member died at the age of 31 after falling from a third-story hotel balcony in Argentina.
An autopsy determined that Payne’s cause of death was multiple traumatic injuries with internal and external hemorrhaging. And a toxicology report confirmed drugs were in Liam’s system when he fell, leading authorities to launch an investigation into his death.
Payne and Cole met when he was just 14 and auditioning for The X Factor. The couple got together 10 years later, and dated from 2016 to 2018.
