Neil Sedaka, the iconic singer/songwriter responsible for such classics as ‘Breaking Up Is Hard To Do,’ ‘Oh Carol’ and ‘ Calendar Girl’ has passed away at the age of 86.
After being rushed to a Los Angeles hospital on Friday morning (2.27,) the legendary musician’s family told Variety:
“Our family is devastated by the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Neil Sedaka.” “A true rock and roll legend, an inspiration to millions, but most importantly, at least to those of us who were lucky enough to know him, an incredible human being who will be deeply missed.”Β
In an interview with TMZ, the Los Angeles County West Hollywood sheriff’s station said that deputies had assisted the fire department on a “medical request” call, and paramedics had transported Sedaka to a hospital at about 8 am local time.
Throughout his celebrated career, Neil was nominated for five Grammys awards, and In 1983, he was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, in addition to being given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
In 2003, Sedaka served as a guest judge on the second season of American Idol, where the ’60s star watched as Clay Aiken performed a cover of his song ‘Solitaire.’
Neil Sedaka and his wife, Leba Strassberg, married in 1962, and the couple share two children.
