According to a notice filed on Monday (10.20) in the Federal District Court of New York, lawyers for Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs intend to appeal their client’s conviction and prison sentence.
According to TMZ, the paperwork lists Alexandra Shapiro as Combs’ lawyer, and his team are likely to file their substantive brief for the appeal within four to six weeks time.
While the filing did not outline the grounds on which Combs would base his appeal, the embattled music mogul’s attorneys previously argued the conviction should not stand because the statute, transportation for the purposes of prostitution, does not apply.
Following an eight-week trial in July, a jury convicted the now 55-year on two counts of prostitution-related charges, and on October 3 he was sentenced to some four years in a federal prison by Judge Arun Subramanian
Having not yet been assigned to a specific prison, Combs remains at a Brooklyn Detention Centre with Judge Subramanian stating that the Bad Boy Records founder should serve his time as close as possible to the New York City metropolitan area.
Combs’ legal team requested the court recommend to the Bureau of Prisons that their client be sent to the low-security federal correctional institution FCI Fort Dix, in New Jersey.
