Confirming his recently being “outed,” chart-topping musician Khalid has publicly addressed his sexuality for the first time, telling followers he is gay.
Including ‘Love Lies,’ ‘Young Dumb & Broke,’ and ‘Eastside,’ the American rhythm + blues/pop singer with a string of hit singles tweeted a rainbow flag emoji, with the caption “There yall go. Next topic please lol.”
Replying to a fan who asked if the singer’s social media post meant he was gay, Khalid said “I am! And that’s okay.”
In a follow-up statement the superstar singer/songwriter gave a bit more context, stating:
“I got outted and the world still continues to turn. Let’s get this straight (lmao) I am not ashamed of my sexuality! In reality it ain’t nobody’s business! But I am okay with me. Love yall.”
Khalid’s comment was in response to a number of social media posts by openly gay internet personality Hugo Almonte, who shared a photo of the pair together. That tweet had followed a series of other posts from Almonte alluding to sexual encounters with a “gay R&B singer”.
Since debuting with his ‘Location’ single in 2016 at the age of 18, Khalid has enjoyed a series of platinum hits, including high-profile collaborations with Billie Eilish and Benny Blanco.
