By releasing a teaser trailer for the Super Bowl LIX Halftime show, Kendrick Lamar has revealed that SZA will join him as a guest performer during this year’s football extravaganza.
In the clip, the Hip Hop superstar stands on a football field, while talking on the phone, saying “You know, this field is a lot bigger than people think, so that’s a must,” “I’ve been thinking about a guest performer.”
Just as someone comes up behind Lamar with a cooler full of a blue liquid, the mystery person reveals himself as SZA, and pours blue liquid over the musician’s head.
In addition to their Sunday February 9, Super Bowl stint, Kendrick and SZA will co-headline a series of stadium shows in the United States starting in April.
Not the first time both musicians have worked together, the duo earned Oscar, Grammy and Golden Globe nominations for their song ‘All the Stars’ from the Black Panther movie.
Now 37-years old, the NFL announced Lamar as the Super Bowl headliner in September of last year via video with him talking to the camera, and saying, “My name’s Kendrick Lamar and I’ll be performing at Super Bowl LIX. Will you be pulling up? I hope so. You know it’s only one opportunity to win a championship. No round twos.”
Not the star’s first time performing at America’s biggest annual sporting event, in 2022 Kendrick joined Mary J. Blige, Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Eminem and 50 Cent for the West coast tribute to Hip Hop.
