On Tuesday night (10.15,0 Kendrick Lamar made his presence known at the 2024 BET Hip Hop Awards
Nominated for 11 Black Entertainment Music awards, the superstar singer/songwriter dominated tis year’s event held at Drai’s Beachclub & Nightclub in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Though the musician was unable to attend the ceremony, Kendrick took home eight prizes including Lyricist of the Year, Hip Hop Artist of the Year, and Song of the Year.
Unlike her fellow musician, Megan Thee Stallion walked home empty handed despite being up for twelve award categories.
In addition to Lamar, Sexyy Red was named Best Breakthrough Hip Hop Artist, and Missy Elliott grabbed the Best Live Performer trophy. Actress-singer Teyana Taylor presented Travis Scott with the I Am Hip Hop award, and as part of his acceptance speech, the superstar delivered an emotional message about overcoming obstacles, saying:
“I just want to let everybody know where you come from doesn’t really matter; just what goes on in your brain can take you to the next level and beyond.” “With true focus, true drive, and real surroundings, you can go where the f**k you want to go.”
Servicing as this year’s BET MC, Fat Joe launchd the event by performing his 2006 hit single ‘Make It Rain’ alongside DJ Spinatik and the night’s event also featured performances from Trina, Yung Miami, Juicy J, 310babii, BossMan Dlow, and 2 Chainz.
