Before she’s launched into space on Monday (4.14,) Katy Perry gave her fans a tour of the capsule she’d be traveling in.
Along with five other women – including TV personality Gayle King and Jeff Bezos’s fiancée Lauren Sánchez, rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, bioastronautics research scientist Amanda Nguyen, and film producer Kerianne Flynn – the superstar singer will make history as part of the first all-female crew in space since 1963. Blasting off in West Texas 8.30am local and lasting around 11 minutes, the voyage will travel more than 62 miles above the Earth’s surface.
The night before the launch, Perry, dressed in a blue jumpsuit, took to her Instagram account with images inside the capsule, stating:
“Okay, I’m going to show you the capsule that we have been training in for the last few days.” “Here I am! Seat number 2!”
Prior to turning the camera around to show the other five seats where her “astronaut girlie friends” would be for the flight, the superstar musician confirmed her call sign as “Feather”adding:
“Here on the New Shepard,” “I think I’m gonna sing, I’m gonna sing a little bit – I’ve got to sing in space!” “We are the Taking Up Space Crew. Of course, that saying has had a different meaning to it but I think it’s now the first time ever that it’s a double entendre,” Perry continued. “I do believe this. I’m not going to say I can’t believe I’m here. I do believe this because I think that believing your dreams and saying that is actually how you make your dreams come true!”
In the caption, the now 40-year old mother to her daughter, Daisy and wife of Orlando Bloom revealed just how much the history-making moment meant to her, as she stated:
“I’ve dreamt of going to space for 15 years and tomorrow that dream becomes a reality.” “The Taking Up Space Crew launches tomorrow morning at 7am CT and I am SO honored to be alongside 5 other incredible and inspiring women as we become the first ever all female flight space crew!”
