Katy Perry Wins $1.8M Lawsuit

Per the ongoing dispute over her Montecito, California, home that the previous owner tried to take back, Katy Perry has been awarded $1,800,000.00 in damages.

In August of 2020, the superstar singer purchased the $15,000,000.00 property from Carl Westcott, and days later, the 85-year old entrepreneur and army vet attempted to rescind the deal, citing his 2015 diagnosis of a genetic brain disorder Huntington’s Disease.

Following a protracted years-long legal battle, a judge ruled that there was no “persuasive evidence” to back the original owners claims, and that he appeared to be “coherent, engaged, lucid and rational”.

According to court documents, Perry, who gained ownership of the property in May of 2024, asked for nearly $5,000,000.00 in damages, claiming that $3,525,000 in rental value was lost during the dispute in addition to $1,343,401.95 for “necessary repairs.” On Tuesday (11.25) Judge Joseph Lipner of the Superior Court of the State of California in Los Angeles County determined that Perry is owed a total of $1,842,142.84

Unclear as to whether or not the former couple ever moved in after gaining access to the eight bedroom, eleven bathroom property in May – the family home was initially purchased by the singer and her former husband Orlando Bloom.

The Grammy-nominated musician, who has since moved on with former Canadian PM Justin Trudeau, is currently on her Lifetimes Tour in Shanghai.
