Kanye West’s Albanian Concert

Despite the majority of Kanye West‘s European shows having been cancelled, due to backlash over his previous antisemitic comments, the Albanian Prime Minister confirmed that the rapper’s concert will go ahead in the capital of Tirana.

After the controversial musician dropped his latest LP, Bully, in March, he was scheduled to headline three nights of London’s Wireless Festival, but sponsors cut ties with the event, after which the UK home office blocked the musician from entering the country. West’s shows in Switzerland, Poland and France were cancelled thereafter.

Taking to Facebook, Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama confirmed Kanye’s July appearance with “In every aspect, it is our obligation to welcome and facilitate the development of such events that bring numerous benefits to tourism and the economy.”

Previously married to Kim Kardashian, in 2022 the embattled artist made offensive comments on social media which led to Instagram and Twitter suspending his accounts. He was subsequently dropped by his talent agency, lawyer and record label, and initially refused to apologize for his comments, suggesting Jewish people should “forgive Hitler”.

In 2023, the 48-year old hip hop star apologized, blaming alcohol for his behavior, and in January of this year, he shared a new apology and updated his Wall Street Journal, “to those I’ve hurt,” letter.
