Discussing the release of Yessie, her sophomore full length during her appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Jessie Reyez also performed her new single “Mutual Friend.”
In the Peter Huang-directed video, Jessie confesses to a mutual friend that there’s no love lost between her and a former partner as she’s already moved into “don’t give AF” mode with flowers blooming as she dances around her, symbolizing the resiliency of ending a toxic relationship.
Singing “If you die tomorrow/I don’t think I’d cry, I gave ya one too many nights,” “Don’t care if it sound cold, it is what it is,” ‘Mutual Friend’ follows the June-release of “Fraud”, which marked the musicians first new solo music since her 2020 debut studio album, Before Love Came to Kill Us.
In 2021, Reyez collaborated with Grandson on “Rain,” which appeared on The Suicide Squad soundtrack, and the singer/songwriter also made a cameo on Beyoncé’s Black Is King visual album in 2020.
