Praising the award winning actor chosen to portray him in the forthcoming biopic Deliver Me From Nowhere, after visiting Jeremy Allen White on set, Bruce Springsteen had nothing but wonderful things to say about the thespian.
During a recent interview on Sirius XM’s Springsteen station, “E Street Radio,” the boss said it was weird visiting a movie set to watch someone else play him. But because Jeremy is “such a terrific actor,” “you just fall right into it,” adding “He’s got an interpretation of me that I think the fans will deeply recognize. He’s just done a great job. I’ve had a lot of fun being on the set when I can get there.” “He sings well, he sings very well.”
Applauding the efforts of the supporting cast, including Jeremy Strong, who’s playing the musician’s longtime manager and producer, Jon Landau, and Odessa Young, who’s playing a love interest named Faye, Springsteen said:
“There’s a tremendous cast of people.” “They cast the film beautifully, so it’s very exciting.” (The cast also boasts Paul Walter Hauser, Stephen Graham, Gaby Hoffman, Marc Maron, David Krumholtz, and Johnny Cannizzaro.)
Focused on the making of Nebraska, Springsteen’s 1982 album, Deliver Me From Nowhere is based on Warren Zanes’ 2023 book of the same name and will arrive in theaters sometime this year.
In a 2024 interview with GQ , White talked about all the work he’s done to prepare for the role, including concentrated YouTube research canvassing all the different periods of Springsteen’s life and career, adding “I’m really lucky that there’s sort of a team of folks now in place to help young actors portray rock stars. I’ve got a really talented group of people helping me train vocally, musically, to get ready for this thing.”
As far as his part, Springsteen has remained loosely involved, visiting the set and making himself available to White and Cooper when needed. In his recent “Musicians on Musicians” conversation with Zach Bryan for Rolling Stone, Bruce said, “I’ve seen the scripts, and I’ve talked to the director. They’re just putting it all together, so I don’t have an awful lot to say about it, but I’m excited about it happening … It’s an interesting story, and the script is really good. I feel good about the whole project.”
