Jay-Z’s NYC Casino Plans Denied

On Wednesday (9.17,) Despite the Caesars’ Entertainment, SL Green Realty and Jay-Z‘s Roc Nation attempt to open a Times Square casino by rapper, the bid thwarted by a state board.

Rejected the gaming facility proposal for 1515 Broadway, the six-member community advisory committee voted four to two against the proposal.

Following the the four members who voted against the bid, SL Green CEO Marc Holliday stated “Go run and hide.” “You have to live with that history forever.”

The spearheaded opposition from the Manhattan West Side residents via the No Times Square Casino Coalition, marked a victory for the Broadway League of theatre owners, with Manhattan assemblyman Richard Gottfried, stating

“Most residents of the area we heard from are opposed.” “The Broadway theatre industry is adamantly opposed, and they make a strong case that a casino in this area would do major damage to that gem.”  “There are lots of other places in the city where a casino could thrive.”

Along with various construction trade and other unions, who stated that the gaming property would create jobs and ownership stake for minorities, the casino bid was backed by the Rev Al Sharpton’s National Action Network and entertainers such as rapper Fat Joe.
