Having sent Harry Styles some 8,000 cards and handwritten letters within a months time, Brazilian woman Myra Carvalho was sentenced to 14 weeks in prison after pleading guilty.
According to the BBC, some of the cards written to the former One Direction-member were wedding-themed, and two of the letters were hand-delivered to the pop star’s home address located in Harrow Crown Court.
According to the charge filed against the defendant, her actions had a “substantial adverse effect” on the the musician’s “usual day-to-day activities” and she was told she “knew, or ought to have known, your course of conduct would cause alarm or distress”.
Carvalho was also given a 10 year long restraining order and was banned from attending any event where Styles is performing.
After arriving in the UK in December 2023, court documents confirmed that Carvalho was living in a backpackers hostel in west London and her family was unaware that she had left for England.
During the British court proceedings, Myra admitted to one charge of stalking involving serious alarm or distress and was ordered not to contact the Styled singer either directly or indirectly, and was barred from entering a specific area of north-west London. She must also pay a victim surcharge of $167.
