Taking to her Tumblr page after fans criticized her return, Halsey expressed her regret about coming back to music, stating her displeasure with fans who’ve “stuck around to chime in occasionally with their opinion of how much they hate me or how awful I am”.
Following last week’s release of ‘Lucky,’ her new single and video, the superstar singer/songwriter took to social media with “My own fans are hands down meaner to me than any other people on the planet.” “Not speaking for all of you, of course. But it used to be just a minority that were awful to me and now it seems like a majority.”
After the musician (born Ashley Nicolette Frangipane) was diagnosed with lupus and a rare T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder in 2022, the now 29-year old was excited to return to music, yet the response to her new release has subsequently led her to question and regret that decision.
“It’s hard to want to engage in a space that is completely devoid of any kindness, sympathy, patience.” “I don’t know man. I almost lost my life… all I could think about was getting better so I could come back and be a part of THIS again, but I don’t even know what this is anymore and I want to crawl in a hole and I regret coming back.”
Inspired by Britney Spears’ 2000 single of the same name, ‘Lucky’ is the first single from Halsey’s forthcoming fifth full length.
