Engaged in December 2024 after two years as a couple, Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco give fans an insight into their love story on ‘I Said I Love You First,’ a deeply intimate, romantic full length.
Thanking her better half for “pouring [his] unconditional love” into the project, after dropping the album Selena took to Instagram with “Benny, thank you for being my own personal journal throughout this process. These songs represent our past, present and future… something I can’t wait to experience with you from now until forever. Thank you for pouring your unconditional love into creating this project with me.”
Paying homage to the massive collection of collaborators – including Charli xcx, who co-wrote the song ‘Bluest Flame’, Finneas and Gracie Abrams – Gomez added “To every collaborator on the album: @gracieabrams, @themarias, @finneas, @charlixcx and so many more, thank you for helping me communicate my deepest, truest self into art. I am forever grateful for your trust in creating something so special together.”
And thanking her fans for their support, the superstar musician/actress ended her post with:
And finally, thank you to my amazing fans who have grown up with me and cheered me on through every chapter of this story. I hope you love these songs like I do and they help you along your own journey. Thank you for being a part of mine, it truly means the world to me.”
Now 37-years old, Blanco the producer recently spoke about how he kept constant notes on their conversations for songwriting material, instead of the couple having a formal discussion on what to write about.
On Spotify’s ‘Countdown To I Said I Love You First: Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco In Conversation’, the singer and producer said that they would chat in the mornings but never had a conversation about the record.
“It was very, ‘this is on my mind,’ ‘what is that,’ ‘how does that make you feel?’ kind of thing” said Gomez, with Blanco adding Yeah, I felt like your personal journal.” “I was just, constantly writing whatever you said, wherever we were.” “Sometimes you’d be saying something, like, really important, and I would — I didn’t know if you even realized — but I would open my phone and be like, ‘F***, that’s such a good line for a song.'”
