After he stopped singing midway through his latest concert, Gary Numan left fans concerned.
While performing ‘Please Push No More’ at the O2 Academy in Birmingham on Saturday night (11.15,) the 67-year old musician suddenly broke down, as his wife, Gemma O’Neil, ran on stage to comfort him.
Explaining his sudden outburst of emotion, Numan told the crowd he had received “the worst news” earlier in the day, though he did not elaborate on the details.
Celebratimg the 45th anniversary of his seminal full length, Telekon, the British-born singer/songwriter has been performing the album live in its entirety to fans, singing such favorite hits as ‘We Are Glass,’ and ‘I Die: You Die.’
Following the incident, worried fans flooded social media with concern for Numan, with one advocate writing “Rough to see him so upset during PPNM – not looking forward to hearing the reason in the coming days. Can’t be good. Absolute pro to battle on.”
While she was a member of his fan club, Numan met his wife in 1992 before moving in together the following year, and getting married in 1997. Together, the couple have three daughters.
In an interview with the DailyMail in the UK, Numan gushed about O’Neil saying “This is going to sound corny, given that it’s 30 years since our first date, but I miss her even when she’s in a different part of the house.”
