On Wednesday (11.08,) Frank Ocean took to his Instagram Story account with a ‘snippet’ of a forthcoming single.
Seven years since his last album ‘Blonde’ (2016,) Ocean’s released several singles including ‘DHL’, ‘In My Room’, ‘Cayendo’ and ‘Dear April’ as well as showcasing unreleased music on his Apple Music 1 ‘Blonded Radio’ show.
During his Coachella performance earlier this year, the superstar musician confirmed a new album is on the way. But after returning to the stage following a six year hiatus, he said “I wanna talk about why we’re here … because it’s not about the new album… not that there’s NOT a new album.”
Though the now 36-year-old artist previously stated that he’d release new music only as one-off singles instead of an album, it appears that he’s had a change of heart when he teased a new record on a poster for his merchandise.
The print noted that a “fictitious recording artist” (seemingly Ocean) preferred “the singles distribution model as opposed to the long-form album model,” as it was “more suited to modern consumption habits.”
The teaser came with the admission: “The Recording Artist has since changed his mind about the singles model, and is again interested in more durational bodies of work.”
After splitting from Def Jam Recordings prior to the release of ‘Blonde,’ Frank Ocean is no longer signed to a label.
