For the first-ever FIFA World Cup Final Halftime Show, Madonna, Shakira and BTS have been selected to co-headline.
On Wednesday (5.14), officials from the international football organization and the Global Citizen charity posted a video featuring Chris Martin and several of the Muppets’ stars, with the Coldplay frontman stating “It’s where people get together and there’s singing and there’s dancing and there’s music. And it’s a chance to show how amazing all different kinds of humans are.” “But this show is more about we than me. I mean, it’s about togetherness.”
With the help of superstar Muppets Elmo, Cookie Monster, and Miss Piggy, the Grammy award winning singer/songwriter announced that Madonna, BTS, and Shakira, will be performing, with latter singer performing the tournament’s official song ‘Dai Dai.’
Taking place at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on July 19, The FIFA World Cup Halftime Show will raise funds for the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, which will help to “improve access to quality education and football for children around the world”.
“A FIFA World Cup first, the Halftime Show supports the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, a landmark initiative working to raise $100 USD million to expand access to quality education and football for children around the world.” “Throughout the tournament, USD 1 from every ticket sold to FIFA World Cup 2026 matches will be donated to the Fund,” read the official statement.
The global competition kicks off on June 11 with three opening ceremonies – one from each of the hosts. The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be jointly hosted by 16 cities – 11 in the U.S., three in Mexico, and two in Canada, with additional performances by Alanis Morissette, Katy Perry, Blackpink’s Lisa, Anitta, and Tyla, among many others.
