According to an ex-Kanye West employee, the embattled rapper wanted to build a jail at his private Donda Academy school.
The former staffer of Kanye’s Yeezy and Donda Academy businesses has formally filed a lawsuit against the musician, alleging he witnessed a hostile workplace, and intentionally inflicted emotional distress on his staff.
Employed by West rapper from November 2022 until August 2023, Trevor Phillips claims that he experienced severe discrimination, harassment and retaliative behavior directly from Kanye, and that the musician was openly discriminatory towards Black staff and students.
Court documents filled by Phillips’ attorneys stated “It was immediately apparent to him, and others, that Kanye treated the Black staff considerably worse than white employees.” “It was immediately apparent to him, and others, that Kanye treated the Black staff considerably worse than white employees.” “Even when class was in session, Kanye would scream and berate Black employees, while never even as much raising his tone at the white staff. Often, Kanye targeted Phillips — a Black man — not just with this disparate and harassing behavior, but complete and utter disdain.”
According to the plaintiff, the lawsuit also alleges Kanye West told a pair of school children, “he wanted them to shave their heads and that he intended to put a jail at the school — and that they could be locked in cages.”
