Welcoming a baby girl from his daughter Ruth Clapton and partner, Peter Greenwood, Eric Clapton has become a grandfather for the third time.
Taking to Instagram, Ruth posted an adorable picture of the little girl wrapped up in a cardigan and lilac hat with the caption “Cecelia Rose Clapton-Greenwood. Born 6th Jan 9.21am.” “All of us are so in love with her, and I can’t wait to share my C-section journey with you, but I’m just not quite ready to be out of our newborn bubble yet. Just couldn’t resist sharing this pic of her with you all before leaving the hospital today.”
Already a mother to two sons, aged 12 and 9, with her ex-husband Dean Bartlett, from whom she split in 2020, in August of 2023, Eric’s daughter went on to find love with British musician Greenwood. Last July, the proud parents announced they were expecting a child with a heartwarming video of Greenwood cradling Ruth’s growing bump, and showing off the ultrasound scans, with the caption “We’re having a baby! Just over 12 weeks now, due at the end of January 2026. So grateful.”
While married to model Pattie Boyd, Eric Clapton secretly fathered Ruth during an affair with studio manager Yvonne Kelly. Her existence was kept secret from the public until 1991, when she attended the funeral of Clapton’s four-year-old son, Conor, who fell to his death from a window of a New York skyscraper.
In an MTV interview for his special the year after Conor’s tragic death, the iconic musician acknowledged Ruth, saying, “Ruth has been a tremendous support.”
