One of the most successful singer/songwriters of his generation Ed Sheeran adds to his ever growing list of collaborative compositions including recent songs with Kylie Minogue and BTS.
Following Sheeran’s March trip to Australia to perform at the memorial service for his mentor, music entrepreneur Michael Gudinski, the pop megastar collaborated with Kylie Minogue on ‘Visiting Hours.’ Scheduled for imminent release, the poignant tune features Jimmy Barnes on vocals and is expected to be on Ed’s forthcoming Substract studio album.
“Jimmy Barnes and Kylie are actually singing on that on the album right now,” said Ed on ‘Ash London LIVE.’ “From what I’ve learned about Michael (Gudinski), they are the most musically significant people in his life. ‘Kylie’ or ‘Jimmy Barnes,’ he’d always say. “When I was in Australia, I sang with Kylie and was hanging out with Jimmy Barnes, and I told them, ‘You guys have to be on the song,’ and they agreed. “So when I got back to England, I recorded it and emailed it to them, and they accepted it. “I used to send Michael songs because he always said, ‘You need to send me songs for Jimmy,’” I explained. “As a result, I used to send him a lot of stuff. He’d always wanted me to sing with Kylie, and I finally had the chance.” A source close to Ed told The Sun’s Bizarre columnist “He wrote ‘Visiting Hours’ in quarantine in Australia, performed it at the gig, and asked Kylie to feature on it because she was there too, with the pair having hit it off.”
In addition to his Aussie alliance, Sheeran has also contributed a track to the BTS album. The ‘Bad Habits’ singer co-wrote ‘Make It Right’ for the K-Pop septet’s 2019 EP ‘Map of the Soul: Persona,’ which will be included on the 2020 Japanese-language LP ‘Map of the Soul: 7 – The Journey,’ and Ed’s working on another song with the “Dynamite” hitmakers.
“I actually worked with BTS on their last record, and I’ve just written a song for their new record,” the 30-year-old megastar said on Most Requested Live. “They’re also really, really kind guys.” Big Hit Music, the group’s record label, confirmed that Ed Sheeran is featured on BTS’ new song: “It is true that Ed Sheeran is featured in BTS’ new song.”
The Grammy award winner has stated that BTS is one of his favorite groups. “I actually wrote a song that I hear they’re messing with,” he added. This was something I heard the other day. However, I like BTS and believe they’re fantastic.”
When asked who his favorite musicians are, RM, of South Korean boy band (with V, J-Hope, Jin, Jimin, Jungkook, and Suga) said, Ed. “I love James Blake, I love Jorja Smith, and Ed Sheeran of course.” he stated.
In solo music news, Ed Sheeran just released “Bad Habits,” to massive acclaim and is James Corden‘s week-long guest on the The Late Late Show.
