After placing a high-stakes bet on the Super Bowl, Drake lost $1,000,000.00
Having placed a wager on the New England Patriots to win America’s single biggest sporting event, on Sunday (2.08,) his team were bested 29-13 by the Seattle Seahawks.
Taking to social media a day prior to the game, the superstar rapper/writer shared proof of the bet on Instagram with an image of the slip and the caption, “Bet against me if you dare,” adding that a Patriots victory would have more than doubled his money, with estimated winnings of $2,950,000.00
Following his announcement fans flooded the internet with jokes about the alleged “Drake curse”, suggesting that teams he supports are destined to lose, with one Instagram user writing, “Drake curse. Let’s go Seahawks,” while another commented, “I know every single time to take the opposite of whoever you think is going to win, that’s how bad it is.”
Not the first time the embattled musician has suffered financial humiliation, in 2016, Drake lost a $60,000.00 wager to French Montana over the NBA Finals, and he also lost $1,000,000.00 after backing the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2025.
The rapper (born Aubrey Drake Graham) suffered another costly defeat at the 2025 Super Bowl, when he placed a $1,000,000.00 on the Kansas City Chiefs, who fell to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Denying the curse, the Canadian native pointed to the 2019 championship win by the Toronto Raptors, basketball team he supports, with his May 2025 Instagram video message “The Drake Curse is funny to me, honestly.” “First of all, the Raptors won a championship, so nobody could ever talk to me about the Drake Curse.”
In 2022, the 39-year old signed an endorsement deal with the online casino platform Stake.
