Doechii + SZA Drop ‘Girl, Get Up’: Look + Listen

Doechii and SZA close out 2025 with their collaboration “Girl, Get Up.”

Combining a stripped-back drum rhythm with the Birdman and Clipse classic sample, “What Happened to That Boy,” along with atmospheric synths, the collab provides Doechii with the perfect platform to ruminate on life. Saying she’ll address the misogyny flung her way on her next LP, the musician (born Jaylah Ji’mya Hickmon) added “For now, let’s sink into the fact that hate don’t make you powerful/Y’all monitoring spirits, go monitor that checkbook/Fashion week was radical, diamonds what my neck took/Tried to turn the other cheek, but y’all just too damn extra.”

For her part, SZA provides the infectious hook “I be in the back levitating, doing meditation, hear me girl, get up/Taking on all confrontation, fuck a limitation, hear me girl, get up/Somehow I know that I’ll have everything, it’s mine, mine, mine.”

In addition to “Nissan Altima,” “Bullfrog,” and “Catfish,” “Girl, Get Up” is the latest and final song in Doechii’s “Swamp Sessions” series, where she attempted to write a song an hour while pairing the track with equally compelling visuals.

Continuing to build on the success of her breakthrough Grammy-winning 2024 album, Alligator Bites Never Heal, ‘Girl …’ is one of several new singles Doechii released this year, in addition to her biggest 2025 title, “Anxiety,” that was originally released in 2019, but re-recorded and reissued earlier this year after gaining traction on TikTok. The track helped the artist earn five Grammy nominations, including Record and Song of the Year, Best Rap Performance and Song, and Best Music Video.

Along with “Anxiety,” Doechii released the solo track “Nosebleeds,” and several collaborations, including “ExtraL” with Jennie and “Beat a Bitch Up” with Alameda.” She also hopped on a remix of the Weeknd and Playboi Carti’s “Timeless.”
