For his unauthorized sample use of the The Police’s 1983 hit ‘Every Breath You Take’ on his 1997 Biggie Smalls tribute, ‘I’ll Be Missing You,’ P. Diddy pays Sting $5,000.00 per day.
Following Sting’s 2018 interview on The Breakfast Club when mentioned receiving $2,000 per day for the sample use, on Wednesday (4.05,) the superstar rapper (born Sean John Combs) took to Twitter with “Nope. 5K a day.” “Love to my brother @OfficialSting.”
According to Sting (born Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner), Diddy only sought permission after the release of ‘I’ll Be Missing You’ in honor of The Notorious B.I.G., featuring Biggie’s widow Faith Evans and 112 on the hook.
Topping the Billboard Hot 100 chart for 11 weeks and winning the Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group at the 40th Annual Grammy Awards, ‘ … Missing You’ was the second single from Diddy’s 1997 debut album No Way Out.
