On Monday morning (12.15,) Sir Cliff Richard revealed that he was diagnosed with prostate cancer while undergoing a routine health test before a tour, and has subsequently received treatment throughout 2025
In his own words, the now 85-year-old singer said:
“I was about to embark on a tour which in fact ended this time at the Royal Albert Hall (in London),” he told broadcaster Dermot Murnaghan. “But I was going to Australia and to New Zealand, and the promoter said, ‘Well, we need for your insurance, you need to be checked up for something.’ They found that I had prostate cancer.” “But the good fortune was that it was not very old, and the other thing is that it has not metastasised. Nothing had moved into bones or anything like that.”
Confirming that the cancer was “gone at the moment”, but unsure if it was “going to come back,” he added “We can’t tell those sort of things, but we need to, absolutely, I’m convinced, get there, get tested, get checked.”
Criticizing his country’s recent decision not to introduce a national prostate cancer screening program for men in the U.K., the legendary singer called it “absolutely ridiculous.” “We all deserve to have the same ability to have a test and then start treatments really early.””It seems to me – I’ve only been for one year now in touch with cancer, but every time I’ve talked with anybody, this has come up, and so I think our government must listen to us.”
Interested in working with King Charles III, after the monarch spoke out about his cancer battle and emphasized the importance of early diagnosis in a Stand Up to Cancer video on Friday (12.12,) Richard explained:
“I’ve been involved with many charities over the years, and if the King is happy to front it for us, I’m sure loads of people, I certainly would join him. If the King is listening, I think most of us would say yeah – we’re available!” he declared.
In his own video, the King – who was diagnosed with cancer in early 2024 – revealed in Friday’s update that his cancer treatment can be reduced in the New Year.
