Carrie Underwood Rejoins American Idol

Nineteen years since she won season four of the iconic singing competition, Carrie Underwood is heading back to American Idol … but this time as a judge!

Expected to replace Katy Perry’s on the 23-year old singing competition that made her famous, Underwood will join current judges Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan. Following her seven-season stint, earlier this year Perry confirmed her departure from the show.

One of Idol’s most famous and successful Idol alumni, Underwood has since sold 85,000.000 records and has won eight Grammys.

Carrie has returned to the show several times over the years as a mentor and the search for Perry’s replacement has included fellow superstars Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber, Pink and Meghan Trainor.

In an interview with Billboard, singer/songwriter Bryan elaborated on the search for a new judge.

“It’s been interesting. We currently haven’t heard what the story is on who’s coming back. I think Disney is just trying to figure out what they want to do and we’re just kind of sitting back and waiting until they decide.”
